Navigating Parking at Manchester Airport

Whether you are flying out for a quick business trip or a two-week family holiday, deciding where to park your car at Manchester Airport is a crucial part of your travel planning. With over 28 million passengers passing through its terminals annually, the airport offers a wide variety of official and third-party parking solutions designed to fit different budgets and convenience levels.

It is important to note that parking for your own personal vehicle is completely separate from the Car Rental Village. If you are returning a hire car, please refer to our Car Hire Return Guide.

Book in Advance

The golden rule for airport parking is to book as early as possible. Turning up on the day and paying the "drive-up" or gate rate is significantly more expensive than pre-booking online, especially for Long Stay and Meet & Greet services during the summer peak season.

Official On-Airport Parking Options

Manchester Airport operates several official car parks located within the airport perimeter, offering the highest level of security and convenience.

1. Meet & Greet Parking

This is the ultimate convenience option. You drive directly to your departure terminal, hand your keys to an official airport valet, and walk straight into the check-in hall. Your car is securely parked for you in an official lot. Upon your return, your car is waiting for you in the arrivals area. This is ideal for families with heavy luggage, business travellers, or anyone looking to minimize transfer times.

2. Multi-Storey (Short Stay)

Located directly adjacent to Terminals 1, 2, and 3, the multi-storey car parks are perfect for short business trips (1-3 days) or if you are dropping off or picking up passengers. Because they are within walking distance of the terminal doors (usually a 2-5 minute covered walk), they command a premium price.

3. Long Stay Parking

If you are travelling for a week or more, Long Stay parking provides excellent value. These official car parks are located slightly further away from the terminals but still within the airport boundary. A free, regular shuttle bus runs between the Long Stay lots and the terminals, usually taking about 5 to 10 minutes.

Off-Site & Park-and-Ride Options

In addition to the official airport car parks, there are numerous independent "Park and Ride" operators located just outside the airport perimeter (often in areas like Wythenshawe or Styal). These providers often offer the cheapest daily rates.

You drive to their secure compound, park your car, and use their dedicated shuttle bus to reach the airport. When choosing an off-site provider, always ensure they are Park Mark awarded for security to ensure your vehicle is safe while you are away.

Terminal Drop-Off Charges

If you are simply dropping a passenger off at the airport in your own vehicle, be aware that Manchester Airport operates a forecourt drop-off charge. Vehicles entering the zones directly outside Terminals 1, 2, or 3 are subject to a fee (typically starting around £5 for a 5-minute drop-off). Payments are taken at the exit barriers via card.

If you wish to drop off passengers for free, you must use the designated "Free Drop-Off Area" located in JetParks 1, from which passengers can take a free shuttle bus to the terminals.
